The front page of Google, the top 10 sites showing (sometimes out of Millions) on Google search results page, is perhaps the most valuable bit of online “real estate”. Below are the basic elements required for getting your chosen keyword term to rank in the top 10. An easy to rank term with few competing sites (usually few searches too but not always) may require very little effort. The more competitive the term, the more work will be required on all levels.

These are all considered “white hat” and long term practices not likely to get the famous “Google slap” as will so many flavor-of-the-month “black hat”, spammy techniques. Taking time for good keyword research is key to know what terms are getting searched and not overly competitive. Having the keyword in your domain name does not hurt, but is not necessary. If you can, save the file name to include the keyword. On most blog sites like Word Press, that means changing the “permlalink” to include the post title, which will have the keyword.

Step 1 – Write Quality, Themed Content

Quality content is keyword focused, not only on primary keyword but themed or related keywords as well. Use software tool such as webcontentstudio.com to help write good themed content. A 500-700 word article is ideal, with primary keyword in title, meta tags, body copy and related keywords throughout. An occurrence of a related keyword every 5-10 words seems to be most effective. Can outsource this to trained writers (we got em for $100 per article)

Step 2 – Pinging and Social Bookmarking

Most blog software like Word Press will automatically ping your post when you publish but if not use pingomatic.com. Immediately, also use socialmarker.com or similar (or outsourcers) to bookmark your article using the top social bookmarking sites such as StumbleUpon, Digg, Delicious, Propeller and others. This should take you 15-20 minutes using the socialmarker tool, or you can outsource it. There is some controversy over whether these links are “followed” and counted by Google, but I have seen first hand my rankings improve with this step alone. Just do it!

Step 3 – Article Marketing

Can simply post copies of exact same article to the scores of article directory sites, including the mammoth ezinearticles.com, with a link to your page in the resource box. The incoming links will be valuable but if exactly same content, both pages will not be ranked. Better yet, have the article rewritten to be unique (change by at least 50%) while preserving the themed content in step 1. For just $70 per article, Kaizen Marketing will do a high quality rewrite of your content and submit (via outsourers) to 100 article directory sites for good backlinks AND possibly multiple rankings – front page results for more than one site.

Step 4 – Other Authority Backlinks

In addition to article sites, you should get as many high authority Web 2.0 sites to link to you as possible, including sites like Youtube, Facebook, WordPress, PRlog, eHow, Blogspot and others where you can create and save content, including links. Also, many forum type sites allow user profile pages with links that are followed by Google. Do this yourself or outsource to someone well trained in these methods (Kaizen Marketing of course!) For just $100, we will build 30 high quality links to your specific keyword focused page. For the current top web properties to get links FROM, download the free rank decoding engine. While the sites are not the highest authority, I have seen improvements using this handy link network service: Textlinks.com – the free trial gives you 25 links you can keep.

A front page google ranking is not hard for some terms just using a well optimized page, with quality themed content. For most worth having, you will also need to include a link building campaign, using the keyword in your anchor text links. Kaizen Marketing can help you get there. Contact us for a free site evaluation and specific suggestions to increase your success, and get more targeted traffic to your web site.

Google’s new algorithm, code named Caffiene is being rolled out starting today and will come in stages, data center after data center.

On the developer sandbox testing page, is now this message:

We appreciate all the feedback from people who searched on our Caffeine sandbox.

Based on the success we’ve seen, we believe Caffeine is ready for a larger audience. Soon we will activate Caffeine more widely, beginning with one data center. This sandbox is no longer necessary and has been retired, but we appreciate the testing and positive input that webmasters and publishers have given.

Most sites WILL see some fluctuation in the rankings and for some this will be good news and for others, not so good. Don’t be surprised to see your sites’ Google positions go either way. And even if your rankings go down, there’s no need to panic. Just keep on doing good SEO, stick to the best practices as taught here and on high-profile SEO sites such as searchenginejournal.com, searchcowboys.com, searchengineland.com and many others. Bottom line: post good content, keyword focused but not overdone, using related terms, build high quality backlinks – these are still all solid foundations. The grey hat tricks may come and go but basic search principles will endure such changes. Provide what searchers are looking for and optimize your site to get in front of that traffic.

I have heard from Google expert and guru Colin McDougall that the “conversation domination” model, where folks get multiple listings on the front page of Google from related sites, will NOT be as easy to achieve. And video, news and product search may be more prominent in the results, making it all the more important to make it into the top 3 listings to be seen.

I suggest you monitor your sites with a tool called Rank Tracker. You can get a free copy of Rank Tracker and keep an eye on your rankings fluctuations.

Stay tuned and keep doing your SEO work. The SEO Success Plan is still the best bang for your SEO buck anywhere. We guarantee front page results for 10 of your keywords or we keep working for free until we get you there.

Kaizen Marketing has done it again! Top 10 Google rankings in a matter of hours for our client Bizlightenment.com blog for the following terms:

Household Money Saving Tips

Employee Reward Program

Organic Flower Delivery

Working with the writers at Bizlightenment, we provided keyword reports showing the best keywords for their featured company profile and a related keywords report to weave into the article (using our secret weapon revealing the best themed words – see article on LSI)

Even without complicated link building and social bookmarking efforts, these optimized pages were ranking on the front page of Google within hours of being posted. As these are moderately popular keywords, traffic jumped up to the site from these words. This process works! With some additional link building efforts, these pages could be nudged into the very top positions for these terms.

Want such results for your web site? Contact Kaizen Marketing today for a free site eval and estimate to get your pages on the most valuable piece of commercial real estate today: the front page of the search engine results.

And take a look at our new all inclusive SEO service package.

Kaizen Marketing has teamed up with a top notch Santa Barbara company Thesearchenginepros.com to provide expert and cost effective search engine optimization services (SEO) for any online business.

Kaizen Marketing will help guide you through the process of organizing your content and submitting it into the efficient automated systems created by The Search Engine Pros. We will also help you integrate SEO into your overall online marketing strategy. Remember: traffic + conversions + relationships = sales. SEO is the traffic part of this equation and is critical. These systems employ only above board, accepted “white hat” strategies designed to endure the test of time and not stop working as other, more “black or gray hat” techniques often do.

The SEO Success Plan is still the best bang for your SEO buck anywhere. We guarantee front page results for your keywords or we keep working for free until we get you there.

If you are not claiming this new form of “commercial real estate” for your business, you competition is, and you are missing out on a powerful revenue stream. Pay per click may be faster, but organic search is more long lasting and cost effective in the long run. And according to research, is the most relevant search result.

The search engines are constantly trying to delivery current and relevant news to the searcher. Therefore online press release pages are often given a boost and are sometimes easier to rank than regular site or blog pages.

Case in point: I have been trying to get Best Performance Systems to rank for keywords like Workplace Ergonomics for some time now without much success. But recently I helped to craft a news worthy article, with quotes from the expert and well optimized for the keyword “workplace ergonomics”.

I used a free service called PRlog.com and submitted this release using all the same strategies I use for any other page: balanced content, keyword at beginning and end and related terms throughout. The very next day, this post was on page 2 of Google and with just a little boost from some social bookmarking sites, this competitive term is now on page 1, currently #7, out of 270,000 websites. Not bad!

See the search results here.

Another key advantage to press releases is that they can be syndicated by other press and news sites that may have more authority in the eyes of Google than the original PR site. This happened recently with a press release on Truck Wash Wastewater

The original release dropped off the rankings for this term, but a water news site picked it up and is now at #5 for this article, which links to the clients website.

See results here.

If used correctly, press release services, even the free ones, can get high rankings and help you get the word out about your product or service.

Get more of your web pages spidered, indexed and increase your search engine positioning by doing this one simple thing.

While on the phone with Jerry West of Web Marketing Now, he told me that, “Having a robots.txt file in the root directory of your web site greatly increases a it’s spiderability.” According to his tests, “Significantly more pages get spidered, especially when the pages are two or three levels deep.” Hmmm, I wonder if search engine positioning goes up as well?

I’ve never used robots txt files on any of my sites, so I started asking around some of my SEO friends and turns out most of them use the same software to make their Robots file. The one they recommend the most is the professional version of Robot Manager.

What’s cool about this package, is that it not only generates foolproof Robots txt files, it tracks all the spidering activity that goes on at your site. You’ll know exactly which spider came, and when, and what it got. You can also use it to exclude malicious bots from your site, so it’s not busy serving some evil bot when the good Google bots are trying to get at your pages.

After some of my friends and I ran our own tests on larger sites (being a mininet fan I don’t have many large sites . I found an average of 11% more pages got indexed and on the SERPS (search engine results pages) my positioning went up an average of three places. The only change I made to the site was to add the Robots txt file to the root directory of my server (the same place the index page is stored).

According to Jerry’s private newsletter, my results are actually a little low. He’s been getting much bigger numbers. He’s been getting over 20% more pages spidered than before. But I expect that its due to his sites being quite a bit larger than mine.

So the proof is in the pudding as they say. And it’s hard to disagree with success. Point being, get a robots.txt file on your site. Either make it yourself or go buy software to do it for you. Your search engine positioning and the amount of pages you get spidered depends on it.

UPDATE: Now #7 on the front page of Google! See the results.

original post:

I have been helping my client Nutiva to get traffic and sales for one of their best selling products, organic coconut oil. They currently rank on in the top 10 for “organic coconut oil” and “virgin coconut oil”, but the position for the main term coconut oil (very competitive) has always been just beyond reach at #11 on page 2.

This is not at all bad considering the competitive nature of this term. However, we naturally want to rank on the front page and are trying, not just because that is our job, but because Nutiva really is the premier provider of this stuff. And if you haven’t heard about coconut oil, you should go read the article linked above right now to find out more. (I started using it in cooking instead of olive oil and love it)

So, just now at 11:15pm Nov 10th, I put a new coconut page up on the Nutiva site. This one uses the concepts outlined on my LSI (latent semantic indexing) page to include related terms that we have not used before to create a high quality article which has been added to the bottom of this page. If Google likes this optimized content and extra relevance due to the use of these phrases, I am predicting that this page will jump up a few notches in the rankings. Stay tuned to see how we do… Join our RSS feed to track our progress.

What is Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) and why should I care?

Google and other search engines have been required to constantly improve their algorithms to provide relevant content to searches. No longer is it enough to have a certain percentage of a keyword phrase in your copy, or a certain number of inbound links in anchor text (all still important). Now, the Search Engines are looking to make sure there are plenty of related words in the copy to increase the quality of the search results.

LSI considers words that are not necessarily literally semantically related but that are used in the same context and is more like humans categorize and classify information. LSI knows to connect “Apple” both with “Oranges” and also with “Computer” as it is used in context in common speech.

LSI and The Fractal Connection

The 20th century Mathematician Benoit Mandelbrot used mathematical equations to produce images called fractals which map the probabilities of word occurrences in English. Interestingly, the way we use language and classify documents can be described by mathematical equations similar to those that describe other chaotic systems. Therefore the seemingly mathematical and abstract principles and concepts underlying LSI are surprisingly similar to how humans use words and organize documents.

Because of this, web content that performs well under LSI analysis is likely to be more thoughtfully written, higher quality content and not something a robotic word machine could crank out. What this means to our search engine optimization (SEO) efforts is that every word on the page and not just our chosen keyword is important. In fact, this very document is being written with this in mind, weaving in words we know are seen by Google as related so that this article will stand up well to semantic analysis (one of those related phrases).

Kaizen Marketing’s tagline is “the art and science of continual improvement” and fits in well with this discussion, as using LSI is both art and science working toward the continual improvement of our web page rankings. Used correctly, it can propel a simple web article or blog post into the top 10 Google results in a matter of hours, and I have done that many times recently. This very article is currently ranking at #4 for “latent semantic indexing seo” and #9 for “latent semantic indexing LSI”, within 24 hours using only this method and just a bit of social bookmarking.

How to improve SEO using LSI

By placing additional weight on related words in content, LSI has a net effect of lowering the value of pages which only match the specific term and do not back it up with related terms. In fact, some pages may have their rank lowered by being “over-optimized” for one particular phrase.

So, mix up your anchor text and keywords used. For example, if I were working on SEO terms, I would also use various anchor text combinations so that the linkage appears more natural.

Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) is good for the web searcher because they get more relevant, compelling content. It’s good for the search engines because it increases the quality of the content in their databases. And its good for your business because it ensures you’ll have content that drives more traffic to your site for more conversions and sales.

LSI Secret Weapon – NEW!

Kaizen Marketing uses a powerful software tool that combs through the top 10 Google results for any keyword phrase and produces a report showing the most common 2, 3 and 4 word phrases that are showing up on these top ranking pages. A new article or post written based on these phases can reach top rankings in a matter of hours. Allow us to help you achieve these results for your targeted phrase. We have made it very affordable for small businesses. And besides, you leaving money on the table by NOT getting your web page onto this valuable piece of commercial real estate. Contact us for a free eval of your site.

Here are 6 ways to generate more traffic to your site, whatever your product or service. As the economy poses challenges, the internet economy is apparently booming and now is the time to turn up the heat to generate more sales for your business.

1: Social Networking: submit your site to top social networking sites like, Digg, Kaboodle, Propeller, StumbleUpon etc…….and get listed in Google right away, then again go back into the submitted social book marking sites and leave comments as well as voting on your site.

2: Web 2.0 Tools: Add powerful Web 2.0 tools like blogs, wikis, forums, geo-mapping, rating systems and RSS feeds easily. Set up satellite sites on Squidoo and WordPress linking to your main site and also ranking on their own.

3: One Way linking: One way linking will gradually increase the back links to your targeted website. We use Forum Posting, Blog Commenting and Squidoo commenting for top 100 Squidoo blogs for high quality website back links reliability.

4: Yahoo Answers: a community-driven knowledge market website launched by Yahoo! that allows users to both submit questions to be answered and answer asked questions from other users. As of December 2006, it had 60 million users and 65 million answers. A Yahoo account is all you need and we can help set one up and use your expertise to answer questions.

5: Feeds, pinging, syndicate: We will feed your main blog or website into feed directories, you will get immediately feed index page within 24 hours and then we “ping” the main title, index url , keyword to boost position at Google.

6: FaceBook: Face book is a social networking site that connects people with friends and others who work, study and live around them. People use Facebook to keep up with friends, upload an unlimited number of photos, share links and videos, and learn more about the people they meet. You are creating own products and service leads for yourself. If you do not have a Facebook account, we will help you set one up and if you do, we’ll help you expand and use it correctly.

http://nicheforseo.com

Now it is the time to jump in and drive qualified traffic to your website, to increase sales and have more time to do whatever it is you most love to do.

Search Engine Optimization: A Brief History of SEO

SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is the process of preparing a web page to encourage the search engines to rank it highly on their results pages for certain keywords. The front page of Google might be considered the most valuable piece of “commercial real estate” you could “own”. Some sites get hundreds of visitors PER DAY from organic (FREE) search listings. It can be easy or hard to get there, depending on the keyword phrase.

This process includes both on-page and off-page factors. On-page SEO includes the title of the document, using heading tags, and using the keywords appropriately on the page. Off-page SEO mainly consists of pages that link to your site and the text they use to link to you, called anchor text.

There was a time not too long ago, when on-page optimization was the only thing that really mattered. A few years ago, all you had to do to get onto the first page of a search engine was repeatedly stuff your pages and meta tags full of the same keyword phrase.

The more times the phrase was repeated, the higher the page would appear. But the search engines caught on to this game, and they had to take steps to counteract these effects. They started penalizing sites that repeated keywords too often. They began to ban sites that used “hidden” keywords, which was placing white text on a white background so search engines could see the text, but visitors couldn’t. The search engines had to take action, because their visitors were not getting the quality results they were looking for. The spiders had been basically tricked into sending more traffic to the wrong domain.

Search engines had been working harder and harder to counteract these measures, but for years, they weren’t very effective. Once the search engines caught on to one trick, webmasters found another way to exploit the system.

Then Google developed a unique algorithm that virtually eliminated all of those on-page spam techniques. They gave some weight to on-page factors, but they also included a new system that helped determine the importance of pages.

They decided that sites that were truly high quality would have a large number of sites linking back to them. This system has come to be known as Google PageRank, or PR. Google itself has a PR 10 and new sites usually start with a PR of 0. The higher the PR number a page has, the more important it’s believed to be.

Of course, PR itself also began to be abused. People figured out that all they had to do to increase their PR in Google was to get thousands of links pointing to their site. They started spamming guestbooks, free-for-all link sites, and other low quality sites to get links. Then Google changed their algorithms again to give less weight to links from low quality sites and more weight to higher quality sites.

Another big part of off-page optimization is the actual text that other websites use to link to you, known as anchor text. Anchor text is used to tell people what a particular site is about, but it also tells the search engines what the site is about. If your site sells mens shoes, and you’re trying to optimize a page specifically for “mens shoes,” then you should have sites use that text to link to you as often as you can.

Backlinks are arguably more important than on-page optimization. Backlinks from sites that are in the same niche as your site are weighed especially well, especially if those links are on pages with high PR.

The more links from reputable sites that you can get, the better your page is likely to rank, especially if your on-page factors are also well-optimized. The best way to get backlinks is to use free Web 2.0 social sites such as Squidoo, Hubpages, Wordpress, Wetpaint and many others who have high PR and pass on some of that authority to the subpage you can easily create.

Lastly, there’s a new kid on the block with the Google algorithm and it’s called Latent Semantic Indexing or LSI. Basically, LSI means that Google is looking at your on-page content AND the incoming links, not only in terms of your primary keyword phrase, but also taking into account the related or themed keywords that are associated with that phrase. Shoes would be related to clothing and socks, for example. There are ways to analyze the top ranking web pages to see what Google thinks the themed words are for those pages and create content based on those reports. An active blog site can have front page Google rankings within 20 minutes using this strategy and I have done that recently with a few keyword phrases. See my recent post on LSI.

Of course, all this takes time and the expertise to do the above tasks correctly. Most small business owners do not have the time to do this well and often rely on search engine optimization companies, many of whom are unscrupulous and still try to get by with the same old tricks that used to work but clearly do not now.

In contrast, Kaizen Marketing has the necessary skill and also high integrity to get your keywords to the front page of Google and others at an affordable fee structure. We will create an ongoing campaign suggested for 3-6 months minimum to get you top rankings and work to keep you there for an average of $100 per month per keyword phrase. We guarantee your satisfaction or your money back. We are based in Santa Barbara, California but serve companies nationwide.

Contact us, and we will offer you a free site evaluation based on your home page and the top 5 keywords you would like to rank on. We will also offer a 30% discount off the keyword research report that is always our first step.
